Hartman Elementary opened in 1963 and was named in honor of Richard Floyd Hartman, a renowned Wylie educator.

The Hartman Elementary campus has received many awards and distinctions, including having been selected by the United States Department of Education as a National Blue Ribbon School for 2017.

The Hartman Cool Cat staff and students are honored and committed to continuing our legacy of providing and partaking in exceptional educational experiences.

Mr. Richard Floyd Hartman was born on December 15, 1897 in Rockwall, Texas, where he attended school.  He graduated from North Texas State University in Denton and received a Master’s Degree from The University of Texas at Austin.  

Mr. Hartman married Irene Futrell in 1926 in Rockwall.  Mrs. Hartman taught elementary school for many years.  

Mr Hartman served Wylie ISD for twenty-one years as the Superintendent of Wylie ISD from 1943 through his retirement in 1964.  He passed away in March 1980.
